Severe storms are unlikely today and tonight across the continental
United States.
...DISCUSSION...
An upper-level low will move slowly southwestward from southern
Arizona into northwestern Mexico today. Some instability will
develop from near the upper-level low in the Desert Southwest
northeastward into the southern Rockies by this afternoon. In
response to surface heating, scattered thunderstorms are expected to
form in the higher terrain from Arizona into New Mexico and west
Texas. Thunderstorms are also expected to develop across parts of
the Great Lakes ahead of an upper-level trough moving to the east.
Isolated thunderstorms may also form in parts of eastern New York
and western New England ahead of a lead shortwave trough this
afternoon evening. Further west, a few storms will also be possible
tonight across parts of the northern High Plains and central Plains
ahead of a shortwave trough moving southeastward. Conditions are not
expected to support a severe threat across the continental U.S.
today or tonight.
