Scattered thunderstorms will be possible today across parts of the southwestern U.S. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms may also occur in parts of the mid to upper Mississippi Valley, and in the vicinity of southern New England. Severe thunderstorms appear unlikely. ...

DISCUSSION... An upper-level low will move slowly across southwestern New Mexico today. Surface heating will result in scattered thunderstorm development this afternoon in the higher terrain of much of the southwestern U.S. An upper-level low will also be present across Iowa today. This feature will move southeastward toward the Mississippi Valley. Isolated thunderstorms could develop just ahead of the low this afternoon. A few thunderstorms may also develop in parts of southeast New York, northern New Jersey and southern New England, in association with a western Atlantic upper-level low.
