SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0800 PM CDT Sun Apr 03 2022
Valid 040100Z - 041200Z
...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR PARTS OF
OKLAHOMA INTO WEST TEXAS...
...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe wind gusts and marginally severe hail are possible
for portions of Oklahoma into west Texas this evening.
...Southern Great Plains...
Early evening water-vapor imagery implies a weak disturbance moving
east into the southern High Plains early this evening. A cold front
draped from eastern KS south-southwestward through western OK and
into the TX South Plains will continue south and southeast acting to
aid in at least isolated thunderstorm development. Although
low-level moisture remains limited (surface dewpoints in the upper
40s to lower 50s deg F), steep lapse rates have contributed to weak
buoyancy this evening across the southern Great Plains (reference
00z Norman, OK raob; 600 J/kg MUCAPE). A strong/veering wind
profile with height will support some storm organization with a few
of the stronger storms this evening being capable of an isolated
hail/wind risk. As the boundary layer cools this evening, storm
intensity will likely begin to wane by late evening.
