...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY...
Sporadic lightning strikes will be possible today across the lower
Great Lakes, in associated with lake-effect snowbands.
...DISCUSSION...
A broad cyclonic flow pattern at mid-levels will be in place across
much of the continental United States today, as an upper-level
trough moves southeastward across the western U.S.. Further east, an
upper-level trough will move eastward across the eastern Great Lakes
and central Appalachians. At the surface, a large dome of high
pressure will settle into the Great Plains. High pressure will also
affect the Southeast. This dry and cool airmass will keep moisture
return confined to the south Texas coast, where isolated
thunderstorms could develop during the overnight period. A few
lightning strikes will also be possible in the lower Great Lakes, in
association with lake-effect snowbands. No severe threat is forecast
across the continental United States today and tonight.
