Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0731 PM CDT Mon Oct 04 2021 Valid 050100Z - 051200Z ...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NORTHERN VIRGINIA...MARYLAND...AND PARTS OF DELAWARE... ...SUMMARY... Strong to locally severe thunderstorms may linger for the next couple of hours across northern Virginia/Maryland/Delaware region. ...Northern VA/MD/DE... Weak short-wave ridging is expected to build over the northern middle Atlantic during the overnight hours. Negligible large-scale support across this region will not prove favorable for ongoing convection that is spreading across northern VA, or for isolated showers that have developed downstream across northern MD. 00z soundings from this region exhibit seasonally high PW with poor lapse rates and modest shear. While locally damaging winds have been noted with thunderstorms over northwestern VA over the last few hours, this activity should gradually weaken as boundary layer begins to cool.
