SPC Sep 2, 2021 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook

SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0759 PM CDT Wed Sep 01 2021 Valid 020100Z - 021200Z ...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM THE MID ATLANTIC INTO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND...AND FROM WESTERN NE INTO SD... ...SUMMARY... The threat for a few tornadoes and isolated damaging winds will continue across the northern Mid Atlantic into far southern New England through the remainder of tonight. A few severe storms are also possible across portions of western Nebraska into South Dakota, posing a threat of hail and damaging winds. ...Mid Atlantic/Southern New England... Widespread convection is ongoing across northern portions of the Mid Atlantic into southern New England this evening. Earlier tornadic supercells have weakened, but wind profiles (as noted on KDIX VWP and regional 00Z soundings) remain favorable for rotating storms, with a few tornadoes and damaging winds possible into late tonight with the strongest cells. The threat may spread into immediate coastal areas of southern New England overnight, as the warm front moves slowly northward in advance of the surface low associated with post-tropical cyclone Ida. ...NE/SD... Storm coverage is expected to increase this evening from western NE into SD, as a mid/upper-level trough currently centered near the Four Corners region moves northeastward. While convection may become somewhat elevated with time, MUCAPE in excess of 1500 J/kg combined with effective shear of 30-40 kt will support occasionally organized storm structures, posing a threat of large hail and locally damaging wind gusts. ..Dean.. 09/02/2021 Read more LIVE: spc.noaa.gov
