SPC Aug 8, 2021 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook

SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0800 PM CDT Sat Aug 07 2021 Valid 080100Z - 081200Z ...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM THE OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE VICINITY NORTHEASTWARD TO SOUTHERN PARTS OF MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN... ...SUMMARY... Scattered severe storms capable of producing damaging winds and hail, will continue this evening and into the overnight period from the central Plains to the upper Mississippi Valley. ...Discussion... Several clusters of strong/locally severe storms are ongoing across the outlook area at this time, particularly from the Texas Panhandle northeastward into Nebraska, and then also over parts of central and southern Wisconsin. The convection is ongoing ahead of an advancing mid-level short-wave trough, within a moderately unstable environment. Increasing low-level warm advection this evening -- tied to a strengthening low-level jet -- will sustain vigorous storms across the central Plains region this evening, along with likelihood for upscale growth into one or more convective clusters. One of these clusters -- likely to be associated with a corridor of locally strong/damaging winds -- is expected to evolve in the next couple of hours and move across north central and northeastern Kansas/south-central and eastern Nebraska, and possibly surviving into western Iowa later tonight. Other strong/locally severe storms farther south, will likely spread eastward into south-central Kansas/western Oklahoma, and also may evolve overnight from the southern Minnesota vicinity eastward across southern Wisconsin, where locally damaging wind gusts will be the primary severe risk. ..Goss.. 08/08/2021 Read more LIVE: spc.noaa.gov
