SPC Jun 23, 2021 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook

SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0743 PM CDT Tue Jun 22 2021 Valid 230100Z - 231200Z ...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS OF EASTERN NEBRASKA... ...SUMMARY... Isolated severe thunderstorms will continue this evening across parts of eastern Nebraska and Iowa. ...NE/IA... Scattered strong/severe high-based convection continues across eastern NE and IA. Hail accompanied much of this activity earlier this afternoon but stronger updrafts capable of generating severe hail are now mostly located across the western portions of ww305 over southern Platte County, moving slowly south into Polk County (NE). Latest radar data suggests large hail with this lone supercell. 00z sounding from OAX was not particularly moist, but lapse rates are steep and surface-6km shear is strong enough for supercells. Some increase in LLJ will be noted from the southwest across this region after sunset so this activity could propagate a bit farther downstream before completely weakening. ...OR/ID... Scattered high-based convection has also developed ahead of a weak short-wave trough over southeastern OR. This activity is lifting mostly north and should only glance extreme southwestern portions of ID over the next several hours. 00z sounding from BOI suggests strong downdrafts are the primary risk as cloud bases are likely near 3km AGL. Thunderstorms should gradually weaken after sunset. ..Darrow.. 06/23/2021 Read more LIVE: spc.noaa.gov
