SUMMARY... Isolated large hail and damaging gusts remain possible this evening from western Nebraska into northwestern Kansas. ...
Central High Plains... Early-evening water vapor imagery depicts a mid-level vort digging southeast across the Black Hills region. Scattered convection has developed ahead of this feature, aided in large part by strong boundary-layer heating. While moisture is a bit marginal, steep lapse rates and ample shear have resulted in several robust updrafts evolving from the NE Panhandle into northwest KS. One larger cluster has matured into a small MCS-like system over southwest NE. This activity has produced large hail and isolated severe wind gusts. If precipitation continues to expand with this cluster, some hail/wind threat could linger across northwest KS beyond 03z, especially as LLJ is expected to focus into this part of the central Plains later this evening. ..Darrow.. 05/14/2021 Read more LIVE: spc.noaa.gov
