Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1146 PM CST Tue Jan 31 2023
Valid 011200Z - 021200Z
...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorms are not forecast through tonight across the
contiguous United States.
...Synopsis...
A mid-level low, initially over Baja California, will weaken as it
evolves into an open trough, before reaching far west TX and
Chihuahua, Mexico. Meanwhile farther north, a broad belt of strong
cyclonic mid-level flow will encompass much of the northern tier of
states east of the Rockies. The split-flow upper-air regime will be
hostile to appreciable airmass modification over the Gulf Coast. A
few weak thunderstorms are possible as pockets of elevated
instability develop over TX and the Arklatex. Elsewhere, convective
activity will be suppressed.
