Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0742 PM CDT Thu Oct 07 2021 Valid 080100Z - 081200Z ...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM NORTHEAST NEVADA INTO SOUTHERN IDAHO...NORTHERN UTAH AND WESTERN WYOMING... ...SUMMARY... A few / isolated strong to severe storms with locally strong wind gusts and small to marginally severe hail will remain possible into mid evening across a portion of the Great Basin. ...Great Basin area... Scattered showers and thunderstorms are underway from northern NV through northern UT, southern ID into western WY. This activity is developing within a corridor of forcing for ascent associated with a mid-level vorticity maximum embedded within a modest southwesterly flow regime. The atmosphere is only marginally unstable with up to 500 J/kg MLCAPE. However, steep mid-level lapse rates and cool mid-level temperatures, along with 30-40 kt effective bulk shear are supporting a low-end threat for small to marginally severe hail and gusty winds with the stronger storms.
