SPC Sep 28, 2021 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook

SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0750 PM CDT Mon Sep 27 2021 Valid 280100Z - 281200Z ...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF EASTERN OHIO AND INTO WESTERN AND CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA... ...SUMMARY... A few storms -- with one or two possibly capable of producing hail near severe levels -- may occur late tonight from eastern Ohio into western and central Pennsylvania. ...Eastern Ohio/western and central Pennsylvania... As steep low- to mid-level lapse rates continue advecting eastward into the upper Ohio Valley area, providing modest instability aloft, an overnight increase in quasi-geostrophic ascent across the area may permit a few storms to develop. Aided by moderately strong deep-layer flow, a few of the stronger/elevated storms may prove capable of producing hail -- with a couple of stones possibly nearing an inch in diameter. ...Elsewhere... Storms ongoing across western portions of the Texas South Plains, and southward to the Pecos River Valley area, have remained largely sub-severe late this afternoon and early this evening. Though some uptick in convective intensity has been noted west of Lubbock, where a stronger gust or two may occur early this evening, overall storm intensity should begin trending downward, coincident with diurnal low-level stabilization. As such, the MRGL risk that has been in effect for portions of the Pecos River Valley area is being removed at this time. ..Goss.. 09/28/2021 Read more LIVE: spc.noaa.gov
