SPC Sep 1, 2021 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook

SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0742 PM CDT Tue Aug 31 2021 Valid 010100Z - 011200Z ...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC... ...SUMMARY... A tornado or two and isolated strong/gusty winds remain possible tonight in association with the remnants of tropical cyclone Ida, extending into the middle Atlantic. ...Remnants of Ida to the middle Atlantic... Remnants of Ida have lifted into southeastern TN this evening. Associated surface low is forecast to track into southern WV by sunrise which should serve to sharpen the boundary currently draped across the Delmarva into western VA. Well ahead of Ida, a small cluster of supercells has developed over southwestern VA along the aforementioned boundary. Tornado potential appears to be increasing along the frontal corridor, per recent radar trends, and have adjusted severe probabilities across western VA to account for this development. Otherwise, severe threat may gradually increase downstream later this evening as mid-level short-wave trough opens and ejects northeast across the southern Appalachians. Several weak circulations continue with stronger updrafts that trail south of Ida across GA into southeast AL. Loss of boundary-layer heating should lead to some weakening with this activity, but will maintain at least low severe probabilities to account for gusty winds, or perhaps a brief tornado. ..Darrow.. 09/01/2021 Read more LIVE: spc.noaa.gov
