A few strong thunderstorms remain possible this evening across the northern High Plains and also in the upper Mississippi Valley vicinity. ...Northern High Plains... Thunderstorms across the northern High Plains have struggled to maintain severe intensity, and are now moving into a region of somewhat diminished effective shear. The severe threat should generally decrease this evening as instability weakens, but isolated hail will remain possible with the strongest cells. Some upscale-growing clusters will also pose a threat of isolated strong wind gusts until convection weakens with time or moves north of the surface boundary that is situated across central ND. ...Portions of IA/MN/WI... An increasing low-level jet will become focused into portions of IA/MN/WI this evening. Weak instability has limited convective intensity across this region thus far, but with low-level flow/shear remaining favorable, the strongest convective elements may be capable of producing a brief tornado or locally strong wind gusts for a period of time this evening. ...ArkLaTex...
