THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS
EVENING TO 1 PM CDT WEDNESDAY.

* TIMING...RAIN IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE TO SNOW BY MID TO LATE THIS
  EVENING FROM NORTH TO SOUTH. THE SNOW SHOULD END FROM WEST TO
  EAST WEDNESDAY MORNING.

* SNOW RATES...1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR AT TIMES LATE THIS EVENING
  AND OVERNIGHT.

* TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...4 TO 8 INCHES BY WEDNESDAY MID
  MORNING.

* MAIN IMPACTS...PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW...COMBINED WITH NORTHERLY
  WINDS OF 20 TO 25 MPH AND GUSTS TO 40 MPH LATE TONIGHT THROUGH
  WEDNESDAY MORNING WILL LEAD TO CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING
  SNOW...WITH NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT TIMES. TRAVEL WILL

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

RAIN WILL TRANSITION TO SNOW AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES ACROSS
MUCH OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND ALL OF NORTHWEST INDIANA LATER THIS
EVENING INTO OVERNIGHT. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL AMOUNTS ARE
EXPECTED TO BE MAINLY SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 88. IN
ADDITION...INCREASING WIND SPEEDS WILL LEAD TO AREAS OF BLOWING
SNOW OVERNIGHT.

THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK OF LOCALIZED FLOODING DUE TO ICE JAMS
AS RUNOFF FROM SNOW MELT INCREASES FLOWS ON AREA STREAMS.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY.

SNOW WILL LINGER ACROSS NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA
EARLY ON WEDNESDAY MORNING...WITH BLOWING SNOW POTENTIALLY
CONTINUING ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA ON WEDNESDAY MORNING.
